THE CONTENDER
(A tribute to Harbinger)

I see a day where crowds will stand in grateful awe and gladly call my name

When through the lessons taught by you and through the power in me

A wider and a knowing world will rise to do the same

Where you through me are stopped in streets and greeted as the lucky ones

Where happiness through deeds of ours creates such times of un-diluted fun

I see a day when partnerships are formed to temper raw, unharnessed skill

That reins me in then lets me go to claim my crowd, my crown, my glory days at will

Where tension grips my patrons like a vice that won’t let go

Because through me and what I bring, our story will forever glow

I am that day and in my form you see the waking light

The drumbeat of the morning, baited breath, the countdown to the fight

You see your pride in all of us who strive to make this what it is and what it seems

You see my honesty, my heart, my will, my strength

In me you hold a dream
